Lucius Dry Gin

Our gin

Lucius Dry Gin, whose name is inspired by Saint Lucio - patron of cheesemakers and Gorgonzola - is the first gin in which the absolute leading role is represented by the king of DOP cheeses from the Piedmont-Lombard area. Cut, melted, or spread, this product of dairy excellence has an enormous success in the Italian cuisine and now enters the world of spirits for the first time.

His Majesty, the Gorgonzola from Novara

Known since ancient times, Gorgonzola takes its name from the city with the same name in the province of Milan and, according to legend, it was born because of a negligence of the cheesemaker, who allowed a stracchino cheese to age too much. This lucky mistake led to a unique product, characterized by its creamy texture and particular blue stripes, which develop an increasingly intense flavor as the cheese ages. This is excellent product for our territory (today more than 60% is produced in the Novara area) could not have been more representative. Once we found the best way to distill it, we investigated the botanicals that would allow us to refine its flavor and create an enhanced, intriguing and light-hearted mix.

The wild aroma of the Ossola juniper

To create a gin that is as Piedmonts as possible, we use juniper that grows naturally in the mountains of Val d'Ossola, the northern tip of the region that looks towards Switzerland. This variety is characterized by a particularly aromatic taste and intense resinous notes that match well with the strong flavors of Gorgonzola. Thanks to the collaboration of local collectors and organic farms, we support the conscious use of natural resources through an accurate manual harvesting process.

Flavor of fog: mountain mosses and lichens

To bind the two main ingredients, we used mosses and lichens, unusual botanicals in the world of gin, which allowed us to emphasize the scent of underwood on rainy days. With grassy and woody scents, these two components give the product a more complex flavor capable of blurring the contours, of harmonizing, but without covering, the other elements, just like fog does: a muffled amalgam that sharpens the senses!

Nose

the savory and seasoned scent of Gorgonzola is embraced by a mountain scent that recalls the origin of juniper, moss, and lichen.

Mouth

the minerality of the blue cheese is accompanied by the balsamic scent of the other botanicals which give this gin a surprising softness.

The final

soft, balsamic and unexpectedly fresh, the final flavor of this spirit is persistent after drinking.

Botany

Piedmonts’ juniper, Gorgonzola, moss and lichen.

The distillation method

Our production is made in small batches according to an artisanal and controlled process, which allows us to best balance all the ingredients. The study and knowledge of the raw materials, combined with the experience in distillation of a well-known flavor master, allows us to create a product that is always balanced and harmonious.

Whisky is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.
